Guess Who Flew the Nest.

No.

Not this guy.

Chase is still around.
(My nest must be well feathered).

I am talking about the little quartet that hatched exactly two weeks ago.

The baby robins were doing some pretty awkward flying off the porch this morning.

This one sat there for about 5 minutes before mustering the courage to sail away.

(Stupid Picasa won't load my other pictures for some dumb reason).

Now that they are getting big, the baby robins crap all over my porch and I had to move my chairs and lay  newspaper down.

Gross.

But I think they are really close to leaving my home and exploring the big world!  I feel so proud (HA! of course I have not done a damn thing other than observe their little beginnings. Matt on the other hand took time out every day to dig up a few worms to help mama robin out).

PS:  Did I ever tell you that Chase contracted viral meningitis from a bird crapping on his head while we were vacationing in Mexico?

True story.

PPS:  Is this not the cutest picture of Murphy?

Robin

I call my house the "tree house" because it looks like a tree house and because the main level is up in the tree tops and we do don't  have any curtains because no one can see in and anyway just because.

So this what we discovered a few weeks ago.

This is right outside our front door on top of the patio light.

And while you would think that a soon-to-be mama robin building a nest on your front porch would be a pretty sure sign that spring had arrived-- just two days after I took that picture, I awoke to this nonsense.

I took this shot from my phone while lying in bed on Saturday May 21, 2011. Ugh.  I was so worried about soon-to-be mama robin.

She camped out.

And she guarded her new little dwelling.

And, the next week I discovered this . . .

And finally, on June 2, 2011 (Matt's birthday btw), we came home to this. I knew something was up when I saw mama sitting on her nest backwards.

They don't have feathers quite yet, but they made it. hooray!  Mama and  Papa Robin take turns feeding their babies regurgitated worms all day long.

It is so fun to watch : )

Matt helped them out on Saturday by leaving a small container of night crawlers left over from our fishing trip in front of the nest. (haha dork)

Maybe I can get some picture of the four little ones as they learn to fly. Momma Robin is pretty accustomed  our routines (and our three dogs) and she doesn't even fly away when we go in and out anymore.

That is all I have to report from the treehouse.

Lex loci is Latin for "law of the place," I am Lori. This is my gigantic blog about life, law and whatever amuses or irritates me at the moment. I am a high country dweller and as you may come to see, the world is a little skewed when you are at the top. I live here with my husband, Matt. He claims to have searched the world over to find me, but I know for a fact, he rarely left Breckenridge. We share our space with a pound hound, a very out of place chihuahua and, sometimes, with our 20 year old son, Chase. I practice law, often in my pajamas.
